FAQ

【FAQ of AZ 8551 Digital Handheld ORP Meter】

Q1: What is ORP, and why is it important for water analysis?
A: ORP stands for Oxidation-Reduction Potential, measured in millivolts (mV). It measures the ability of a water body to oxidize or reduce substances.
* Positive values (+mV): Indicate the water is an oxidizing agent, capable of killing bacteria and breaking down organic matter (commonly found in disinfected pools or tap water).
* Negative values (-mV): Indicate the water is a reducing agent, often associated with antioxidant properties (commonly found in ionized water or certain natural springs). It is the most direct indicator of "sanitization efficiency" or "biological activity" in water.

Q2: Why do ORP readings fluctuate and take time to stabilize?
A: ORP measurement is a highly sensitive electrochemical process. Fluctuations are usually caused by:
* Probe Contamination: Any oil, biofilm, or scale on the platinum tip will slow down the response.
* Water Flow: Flowing water typically provides more stable and accurate readings than stagnant water.
* Equilibrium Time: ORP electrodes require time (sometimes several minutes) to reach chemical equilibrium with the ions in the liquid.
* Low Conductivity: In pure or distilled water, the lack of ions makes it extremely difficult to obtain a stable ORP reading.

Q3: How do I maintain the ORP probe electrode for longevity?
A: Always keep the glass bulb moist by adding KCL storage solution to the protective cap. Avoid touching the glass bulb with hard objects and clean it after each use to prevent cross-contamination.
